Midlands Midseason Girls XC Team Rankings

The Bob Jenkins SCTCCCA Coaches Classic laid out the field for our midlands athletes as eight of the mid-season top 10 teams came compete head to head.

The Lady Wildcats of Lexington led the way with a 2nd place finish in the International division at Newberry this weekend. The WIldcats earned a total of 146 points losing to top ranked 4A team, James Island by just 14 points. The WIldcats were undefeated this season before this weekend with wins at the Pelican’s Invitational, Wildcat Classic, and Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals High Country CC Classic in Boone, NC. The Lady Wildcats bring back a strong squad from last years state runner up finish and will look to best that this season. They are led by a strong top three in Kendra Miles, Lydia Metz, and Laurel Walls, all of which earned all-state last fall.

Heathwood Hall ladies are the reigning SCISA 3A state champions and are on a path to earn that title again this fall. The Highlanders returned multi-time state champion Madelyn Gomez to lead their squad. In Newberry the Highlanders finished 7th overall and the 3rd place midlands squad with a 20:13 5K average. They were also the top finishing SCISA school in the 32 team race.

Abigail White and the ladies of Chapin put up a tough fight in Newberry to finish 3rd behind Lexington with a score of 175. Currently the Eagles are ranked 2nd in 5A directly behind their cross-lake rivals. With a team average of 19:36, ahead of Lexington’s 19:51, Region 4-5A will be a battleground between the states top two teams.
