Midlands 3A Notebook Week Nine

Javion Martin

The Crestwood Knights are 2-0 in region play after knocking off Marlboro County this past week with strong play from Quarterback Javion Martin. Martin now has more than 1,500 yards passing on the season. The Knights are going to have to finish the season without WR Nigel Johnson, who suffered a season ending injury last week. This week, the Knights take on a winless Darlington team that should be another region win.

The Camden Bulldogs blanked Darlington 51-0 this past week with a big game from QB Grayson White and a strong defense. This week, the Bulldogs will be idle as they wait for their trip to Crestwood next week in a game that will more than likely produce the 3A Region 6 champion.

Naahzeikiel Mays

Brookland-Cayce escaped Lower Richland game with a win this past week and got good play from their ground game rotation of QB Tanner Staton, who passed for 107 yards and rushed for 35, and RBs De’Shawn Washington and Naahzekial Mays, who each scored a touchdown. This week, the Bearcats host a Dreher team that is struggling on offense but has managed to go 1-1 in region play thus far.

The Gilbert Indians manhandled Swansea last week with strong games fromt their running backs Alias Graham-Woodberry and Jaden Allen-Hendrix who cobined for three scores. They host Orangeburg-Wilinson this week in a game that should result in Gilbert getting to 3-0 in region play.

QB Jacob Harper

Swansea lost big to Gilbert this past week and got good play from QB Jacob Harper, who passed for 220 yards and 2 scores, but the defense could not hold the ground game from Gilbert down. The Tigers fall to 0-2 in region play and take on Lower Richland this week, which could very well put them further in a hole.

Lakewood knocked off Lake City to get to 1-1 in region play. They are going to have to fight for this game, which could very well be a big impact on whether this team gets to the playoffs or not. A loss here will make their game with Darlington a must win next week.

OW QB Anthony Mack

Orangeburg-Wilkinson got a win over Dreher this past week to keep playoff hopes alive but they will not get much help this week as they take on Gilbert. The Bruins offense has been sputtering all season and I don’t think they have the defense to stop the Indians ground game.

Lower Richland lost to Brookland-Cayce this past week in a game that saw very littel offensive production through the air. This team is 0-2 in region play but if they win out against Swansea this week, then OW and Dreher, they can finish this season as a third place in region. A in one of these final games could drop them down to fourth in the region.
