The Blythewood Bengals suffered through a tough season in 2021, finishing the season winless in Region 4-5A and going 3-6 overall. Head Coach Jason Seidel attributes the challenge to youth. “We were a very young football team last season,” said Seidel. “But we return a lot of kids this year, returning 9 of 11 on defense and are excited about this coming year.”
Returners to the offensive side of the football are senior offensive linemen Kyle Fox (6-0,260), Kobe Spain (6-0, 270), and Stephen Osaguona (5-11,285). Senior WR Josh Gary (6-2,190) and Quarterbacks David Herden (6-0,185) and Harrison Collins (6-3,215), a junior, also return. Junior WR Chris Thomas (5-11,175) also returns. Senior TE Anthony Thurman (6-2, 230) is also back.
On the defensive side of the football, Josh Gary and seniorJacob Gary (6-2,195), senior DB Tyler Grake (5-10,175) and junior DBs Trevon Williams (6-1,205) and Drayden Young (6-0,185). At linebacker, senior Anthony Thurman will play both ways and be joined by senior Tykese Ashford (5-11,220). Up front on defense, seniors Jabari Collins (6-5,240) and Jaylin Ricks (6-6,220) will be joined by junior Edward Robinson (6-0,220).
A newcomer to watch is senior WR Deon ”DJ” Tyler (6-3,195), who transferred from Kennesaw, Georgia in the off season.
Also coming back is senior Kicker Ryan Hart (5-11,165).
“Our tough non-region schedule will help us get ready for our region which will be very competitive, said Seidel. “If we stay healthy I believe our team can compete for the regional title.”
