Midlands 4A Notebook Week Nine

RB Markel Townsend

AC Flora got to 7-0 on the season, going 2-0 in region play with a 35-18 win over Richland Northeast. The Falcons got strong play again from Shrine Bowl snubbed runnin back Markell Townsend, who had another 200+ yards rushing game. This week, the Falcons host the Irmo Yellow Jackets, who lost to RNE two weeks ago and to Ridge View this past week.

WR Adonis McDaniel

Ridge View knocked off Irmo this past week in a game that saw their offense bail them out instead of the defense. WR Adonis McDaniel had 144 yards receiving and a touchdown and an 80 yards kick return for a touchdown. RB Marcus Kelly rushed for 77 yards and got the game winning touchdown in overtime to take the Blazers to 2-0 in region play. They are on the road to Westwood this week and while they should have little problem scoring, this Westwood offense is pretty good.

QB Will Wilson

Richland Northeast lost to AC Flora, scoring just 18 points on offense. They are supposed to be back at full strength and will need to be as they compete for a playoff spot in region shuffle. They are home this week against a dangerous Lugoff-Elgin team who can chew up the ground and the clock with their running game. But the Cavs have QB Will Wilson and when he is hot, the Cavs are hot. This is an important game for both teams.

QB AJ Brand

Irmo lost to Ridge View this past week in an overtime heartbreaker for the Jackets in which they led in the final minute of the game. This week, they travel to AC Flora for a battle with the region favorite Falcons. Irmo’s offense should be able to pnnch holes in the Flora run defense but the Jackets defense needs to be prepared for a strong running attack complimented by an efficient passing game. If the Jackets lose this game, they will probably need to win each of there final two games (Lugoff-Elgin, Westwood) to get a playoff spot.

WR Noah Jennings

As bad as Westwood began this season, they have played well as of late. This past week, they got a good region win over Lugoff-Elgin to go to 1-1 in region play. They have Ridge View this week and a loss would put them in a must win situatin in their final two games. This region really looks like there could be a tie for that fourth spot in the end.

RB Sky Harter

Lugoff-Elgin lost to Westwood last week with very little offensive production and that will need to change this week as they travel to Richland Northeast. Both teams are 1-1 in region play and battling for a playoff spot. The Cavs offense can be dangerous when they are on and Lugoff-Elgin really needs to get their ground game rolling to limit the number of touches RNE QB Will Wilson gets.

WR Apollos Cook

Airport is winless in the region after dropping their game to Midland Valley this past week. The Eagles are simply not productive on offense and their defense, while talented, is just left out on the field too long. This week, they take on a South Aiken team who is 1-6 but has played a very tough schedule (Gilbert, Lexington, River Bluff,White Knoll). The Thoroughbred team has a lethally dangerous quarterback that I just don’t believe the Eagles can stop. I don’t think Airport wins a region game this season.’
