The Swansea Tigers return 13 starters from last year’s team, 11 of which are seniors, and they are with high expectations for the 2022 season.
“We know we are in one of the toughest regions in lower state 3A,” said Head Coach bent Wilder, “but we are ready to compete.”
Senior starters returning to the offense are RB/WR Joshua Sutton (6’2,190), WR Lebron Fields (5’10,165), WR Nick Jones (5’9,165) and offensive linemen Tyson Churchwell (5’8,240) and Preston Sease (5’11,320). Junior OL Carter Linderman (5’11,235) also returns. Leading the offense will be sophomore quartrerback Jacob Harper (6’0,165), who started the last seveal games of 2021 as a freshman.
“Jacob steped in when our senor starter went down to injury,” said Wilder, “and he did a fanstastic job.”
The defense will be strong and led by senior Linbackers Ricky Tyler (6’2,205), Chance Knight (5’10,220), Isaiah Dye (5’8,175) and Lydell Zeigler (5’10,205). Safety Dontae Amaker (5’11,170) anchors the secondary along with CB Justin Gissendanner (5’11,175). Up front, the one lone returning starter is junior Landen Lee (6’3,285) at nose.
“We’ve had a great winter, spring and summer preparing for this season,” said Wilder. “We have numerous seniors who have worked hard these past two years and we are excited to see their progress on the field. We are going to have to rely on some sophomores to come in and step up, but we are ready for the challenge.”
