Team Preview: CA Johnson Hornets

After graduating 17 seniors from last season’s team, this version of the Hornets is going to be young. But they do have some returners with significant playing experience and Head Coach Scotty Dean expects this team to be competitive, thouhh many players will see both sides of the ball.

LB Terrell Hopkins

Returning seniors to the line up are OLB Terrell Hopkins (6’3,190), who will also see time at wide receiver. Hopkins is one of the top linebackers in the Midlands. Davan Rice (5’8,170) will play RB on offense and see reps at linebackjer on defense. Nygel Leake (5’9,190) will also play RB and LB. Sam Drain (5’0,299) will play up front on both sides of the football, as will Jemarion Shaw (6’0,300). Tavian Mitchell (5’10,175) will play LB primarily and get reps at WR on offense. Deiayline Jacobs (5’10,175) will take snaps at QB but also oplay some WR and DB on defense. Rafael McKinney (5’11,200) will play LB and RB.

Junior Caleb Pearson (5’7,166) will primarily be a DB but also see time at WR and QB on offense.
Sophomore Kevante Bates (5’9,155) will play RB and WR on offense and see time in the secondary on defense.

“We finished 2nd In The region last year and won a playoff game for the first time in 30 years,” said Dean. “We had a home playoff game for first time in 30 years, finished 6-4. We look to improve in the success we had last year! With the ultimate goal being a State Championship.”
