Fairfield Central head coach Demetrus Davis knows a thing or two about coaching talent, so when you hear him say his team is young but talented, you can pretend the “young” part is silent.
The 2022 version of the Griffins are young on offense, no doubt, with just five starters returning. Senior Offenisve lineman Jaquan Bates (5’10,290) and juniors Jalen Swilley (6’2,230) and Antonio Benjamin (5’11,220) will anchor the trenches while senior wide receiver Jai Boyd (5’10,165) returns with sophomore Tydarion Greir (5’9,170) at wide receiver as well.
Defensively, on the other hand, this team returns eight, yes eight, three year starters and that will be the strength they lean on this season. Senior defensive backs Donovan Watkins (5’10,170) and Jaliah Yarlborough (5’11,180) will be joined by Jai Boyd in the secondary. Junior DB Roman Davis (5’9,160) also returns with sophomore DB Chris Jackson (5’8,160). Senior Linebackers Stephano Gadsden (5’9,185) , JaShaun Manning (5’10,210) and CJ Sampson (5’10,180) are all back along with junior Myles Robertson (5’10,200).
