The Gilbert Indians lost three games last season by under a dozen points combined. Coming into 2022, Head Coach Chad Leaphart says despite bing young, they are talented.
“We lost 24 seniors from last year and return just 6 starters,” said Leaphart. “We only have about ten seniors on the roster but it has some quality in that small group.”
Returning senior starters for the Indands are quarterback Chance Jennings (5’11,180), RB Alias Graham-Woodberry (5’9,170) who is lightening quick and rushed for more than 1,600 yards in a two-man backfield, Offenisve linemen Blake Cook (6’3,235) and Nat Yon (5’10,230). Also on offense is junior running back Jaden Allen-Hendrix (6’3,230), who also rushed for 1000 yards last season.
Junior quarterback Drake Braddock (6’1,175) will be tested at quarterback and if he can get the job done, Jennings will move to wide receiver to give the Indians a threat downfield.
Junior Brenden Boutwright (5’10,170 will return on defense at outside linebacker and senior defensive back Jordan Smith (5’11,165) returns for his third year as a starter. Smith could also see time at wide receiver on offense.
“We have some good kids coming up in our junior and sophomore classes,” said Leaphart. “Evan though we will be young, we are excited about the talent we have and expect this team to continue the success we’ve had the past several years.
