The Andrew Jackson Volunteers were a 6-4 overall team last season, finishing 3-1 in region play before losing to Saluda in the first round of the state 2A Playoffs.
Coach Todd Shigley’s team returns 15 players who were either full time starters or played significant time in 2021’s campaign.
“We return a lot of players who were key contributors on both sides of the ball last season,” said Shigley, “and we have some roles to fill but we have a chance at being a really good team.
Offensviely, the Vols bring back six guys who started last season, including senior quarterback Hammond Wren (5’11,170), who had 470 yards passing in limited action in 2021. Joining him will be senior wide receiver Seth Marshall (5’9,150), junior wide receiver Banks Helms (5’8,155), junior running back Trey Thompson (5’11, 205) who rushed for 1,200 yards and 13 scores as a sophomore. Up front are juniors Hayden Williams (6’0,210) at tight end and offensive linemen Brooks Horton (6’4,300) and Ethan Shipp (6’1,200).
“This will be the first year we wll start off without a starting kicker, which is key, but other than that I’m pleased with the talent we have on this team,” said Shigley.
