The Sumter Gamecocks went 10-2 in 2021, losing to Dutch Fork in the third round of the State 5A Playoffs. This season, the Gamecocks return talent at key positions and bring back a lot of experience on the offensive and defensive lines.
Sernior returners to the Gamecock line up include Zyeri Gamble (5’11. 180) and Marquis Lanej (6’1, 185), both considered multi-posiiton players and both see time on both sides of the football. Senior Nate Butler (6’1,175) is another who will play both sides at WR and DB.
Up front on defense, the Gamecocks are led by one of the state’s top prospects, Monteque Rhames (6’6,245) at defensive end. Joining him is senior Alijah Brown (5’8,250).
Thre huge seniors are in the trenches on offense including Mason Gregg (6’2,295), Valdez Holmes (6’3,270) and Trevor Ingram (6’7,240).
Junior Jauron Bennett (6’0,175) returns at cornerback on defense.
The Gamecocks have a two-way battle at quarterback between a sophomore and a rising senior, though no decision has been made yet as the starter.
