Lower Richland experineced some success in 2021, going unbeaten in region play and winning the region championship, and finishing with an overall record of 8-2, losing to Clinton in the 2nd round of the state AAA playoffs.
They are looking to build on that success with the return of four key senior starters returning. WR Nate Branch (6-9,175), WR Matt Campfield (6-3,205), OL Cam Newton (6-3,330), and WR Ty Washington-Hunt (5-8,170) all return to give the Diamond Hornets a solid senior group of seniors with experience.
The also bring back three junior offensive linemen from last season with Dakari Sumter (6’9 340), Shemar Glover (6’2 270), and KeyAndre Richardson (6’2 270). ?They will be blocking for returning quarterback Marcus Smith (5-9,170).
In 2022, the Hornets will move to a very tough Region V-4A with Brookland-Cayce, Dreher, Gilbert, OW and Swansea.
“We set 3 goals for this season win the region, practice on Thanksgiving and play the 1st weekend in December,” said coach Martin Taylor. ” We have the potential to be a great team.”
