Midlands 3A Notebook Week Ten

QB Javion Martin is third leading passer in the MIdlands and leads 3A

The Crestwood Knights whupped up on Darlington last this past week and got to 3-0 in the region. This team is playing very well on both sides of the football and will play for what should produce the regino champion this week hosting Camden, also unbeaten in region play. The winner is in the driver’s seat to get a No. 1 seed.

Camden got another was idle this past week but are ready for their big match up against Crestwood this week. The Bulldogs have been playing solid on both sides of the football and have a handful of defensive stars leading the way. The match up with Crestwood ison the road this week and should produce the region winner.

Naahzeikiel Mays leads 3A rushers

Brookland-Cayce played a sloppy first half but recovered well to beat Dreher convincingly and remain unbeaten in region play. They got a big game from RB Naahzekiel Mays and this week, they will take on a deflated Swansea team that was pummeled by Lower Richland last week. This team is headed for a showdown with Gilbert for the region crown.

Gilbert layed it on Orangeburg-Wilkinson this past week to get to 3-0 in region play and got strong play from their RB tandom of Woodberry and Hendrix. This team is beginning to pass the ball some and that makes them more dangerous. This week, they take on a Dreher team that is struggling in their rebuild. This will set up a showdown between Gilbert and Brookland-Cayce for the region crown.

Lakewood got a win this past week over Marlboro County to get to 2-1 in region play. This sets the stage for some interesting play from here out. They take on a Darlington team they should beat this week. A win there, could make the finale against Crestwood interesting. A win over Crestwood in the finale would throw this region into a three-way tie if Crestwood were to beat Camden this week. If they lose, a win by Lakewood in the finale gives them 2nd place in the region.

Lower Richland got a region win over Swansea but honestly, the Tigers are not a match for anyone in this region. This week, the Diamond Hornets take on an Orangeburg team that is struggling but is still dangerous. The loser of this game is probably out of the playoffs.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson lost this past week to Gilbert and it wasn’t even close. Their offense was not bad, rushing for 160 yards; they just couldn’t score. This week, they take on Lower Richland and need to tighten up their ground defense, which gave up 238 yards to Gilbert. Loser will probably be out of the playoffs.

Swansea lost to Lower Richland this past week and it wasn’t pretty. This team is terrible on both sides of the football. This week, the Tigers face Brookland-Cayce and it will be more of the same against the tough Bearcat running game.
