The Hammond Skyhawks got another win over Augusta Christian this past week to improvfe to 5-2 overall but more importantly, 3-0 in SCISA Region play. They got a good game from QB Dylan Richardson with three passing touchdowns and this team is rolling. There is little doubt in my mind that this is a team that is at a level above any other SCISA team right now. This week, they take on Cardinal Newman.
Ben Lippen is now 5-2 and 2-1 in region play after knocking off New Hope Leadership 45-6 this past week. QB Dobson Ricks is on fire with more than 1,100 yards passing and RB Brice Craft now has close to 700 yards rushing on the season. This week, they take on Trinity Collegiate, who is 3-4.
Heathwood Hall is 4-3 and 3-2 in region after losing to Laurence Manning last week. This team is a lot better than I anticipated them being in preseason and are getting good play from their freshman QB Patrick Belk, and a strong defense anchored by Nick Johnson at end. This week, they take on a winless Camden Military and it should be a win for the Highlanders. They will, however, need to cut down on turnovers to finish strong in region.
Cardinal Newman is 3-3 and 1-2 in region play. I honestly thought they would be doing better this year but at times, their defense has shown vulnerability and it has made for some losses that perhaps should have been wins. They are strong up front on offense, have SCISA’s best running back in AJ Reyes, and their QB is one of the best in the Midlands 2024 group. This week, they take on Hammond and I’m afraid that this will not fare well for the Cards. This will be the besr defense they have seen this year and one of the best offenses.
Northside Christian is 2-0 in region play for SCISA, but lost to Williamsburg Academy last week. This week, they take on Georgia School for Innovation and Classics and I don’t know who they are but they are in for a beatdown this week.
Thomas Sumter is 3-3 on the season and got a win over Greenwood Christian this past week. Coming up, the Generals face Palmetto Christian Academy in what should be another win for the Generals.
Richard Winn is 3-2 after a heartbreaking 8-0 loss to King Academy last week. This week, the Eagles take on a 3-2 Faith Christian team out of Summerville who has a potent offensive attack.
