Midlands 2024 Position Rankings: Defensive Backs

The Class of 2024 Position Rankings for Midseason is here and there are several positions that are heavy with talent. These position rankings will definitely change by the end of the season but these are how we see them right now at the mid-season mark.

Khalil Moody

The defensive back position is deep in talent, just as it was with the 2023 class. Crestwtood’s Khalil Moody is a long rangy player who can play cover or safety. He’s one of the leading tacklers for the Knights. Gray Collegiate’s Zai Offord is an ahtlete who’s stock is about to explode. He covers a lot of ground in the secondary and is dangerous on offense as well as a slot receiver. He’s got good genes as the son of an NFL’er. He was just offered by Charlotte. Myles Pratt of RNE is a good coverage guy who is also strong in run support. He has 21 tackles on the season, with 10 for loss. Christian Anderson of Eau Claire is a big, strong athlete who I think will play safety at the next level and possibly even outside

Lexington’s Brayden Woolbright

linebacker. Brayden Woolbright of Lexington, like Offord, has good genes. The tall defensive back’s grandfather was a standout QB and TE and his father was a collegiate WR. Woolbright is playing defense for the first year and still learning but he’s got good coverage skills and can hawk the ball as good as anyone. He has two interceptions and 4 PBU’s on the season. Irmo’s Isaiah McClary is a tall coverage guy for the Jackets. He’s got 29 tackles on the season. Spring Valley’s Devon Crumpton has played very well this season for the Vikings, racking up 39 tackles and 4 PBUs on the season. His size may be an issue

White Knoll’s Marcus Domenech

but he is definitely at least a DII caliber coverage guy. Fairfield Central’s Roman Davis is another coverage guy that is going to see his size hurt him a little in recruting. But this cat is good in run support and can hawk a ball. Sumter’s Jauron Bennett has 29 tackles on the seaon with an intercetpion and 6 PBU’s. He’s not a good one to target for quarterbacks. Marcus Domenech of White Knoll is a big bodied player that I like a lot. He’s a ball hound and has 50 tackles on the seaosn with 10 for loss and 2.5 sacks. Ryan Biggerstaff of AC Flora is solid in run support and a good open field tackler. He has 39 tackles on the season, with an interception and 4

Braxton Rodgers

PBU’s. Braxton Rodgers of Cardinal Newman is a tall safety who is excellent in run support. He hits as hard as most linebackers and has 51 tackles on the season with 2.5 sacks and an interception. Caleb Pearson is a two-way starter for 1A CA Johnson but this kid could start on any team in the Midlands. He’s a ball hawk in the secondary and has 28 tackles on the season with 3 interceptions. Luke New of Pelion is a very good athlete that does a lot of things for the Panthers. He’s their quarterback on offense but on defense he can cover and is athletic enough to be very sticky in coverage. Dreher’s Jaden Haygood has been tested this year. He’s got very good range in the secondary and covers a lot of ground. He’s got three INTs on the season. Cardinal Newman’s Troy Seal is another coverage guy that is athletic on both sides of the football. He has 32 tackles on the season with 2 interceptions for the Cards.

As we finish out the season, you will see this list change some with revistions.
