Midlands 2024 Midseason Position Rankings: Linebackers

The Class of 2024 Position Rankings for Midseason is here and there are several positions that are heavy with talent. These position rankings will definitely change by the end of the season but these are how we see them right now at the mid-season mark.

The linebacker group is like an animal kingdom full of beasts. This is a strong group. For the record, I like my linebackers mean, I like them to the ball fast and I like them to get there with bad intentions for the ball carrier. This group is full of that type of player. It is also one of the largest position lists so I will limit my commentary to the Top 10 on the list.

Seneca Moore

I said in the preseason that Lakewood’s Seneca Moore was a Power Five talent and he got his first P5 offer this week from Boston College. This kid has the size and athleticism (also a state qualifier as a high jumper) with 4.5 speed. He is aggressive and hits like a truck. Lexington’s Christian Sexton is another one who is a heat seaking missle for the ball. He has 62 tackles on the season with 10.5 for loss. Myles Brown of Ridge View is a monster; big, physical and mean. He has 42 tackles, 8 for loss, 3 sacks and an interception on the season. This is a guy who is going to add weight and I could see him eventually moving to the edge up front. But he’s athletic enough for pass

Myles Brown

coverage as well. Lugoff-Elgin’s KD Outten is another physical hitter. He has 70 tackles and 5 sacks on the year. Ridge View’s David Matthews is the second of their duo at middle linebackers. He is a bit undersized but plays a physical game. He has 49 tackles, 4 for loss and 3 sacks on the season. He is probably going to be a small FCS to DII guy based on size. AC Flora has two guys in the Top Ten. Albert Perkins and Eric McClain. Both of these guys are

LB Jalil Favor

quick to the pile type of players. Perkins has 38 tackles on the season and McClain has 59. Both of these guys are ballhounds. Jylil Favor is one of two Irmo guys on the list. He has 44 tackles on the season and is the Jackets’ top defensive player. Deminico Banks of White Knoll may be the 2nd biggest hitter on this list. He has 50 tackles, 10 for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also has a couple of forced fumbles. Blake Croft of Gray Collegiate is a guy who has started since his freshman season. He’s athletic enough to play safety, as well, but he’s a hunter and hitter and I like him best at outside linebacker.

There are 19 guys on this list right now and this list will change by the end of the season. But every single player on this list is capable of playing football at the next level at the minimum Division II. Every one of the guys on this list gets to the pile every play and that is why they are on here.
