Midlands Position Rankings: Linebackers

The Midseason Player-Position rankings are an updated version to our Top 100 List, broken down by position. As stated when the original rankings came out, the list would change throughout the season as the senior film came in and it certainly has changed. We will do one more revision in post season for the final position rankings.

The linebacker group is strong in the Midlands in this 2023 class and the next class as well. This is a very physical group of linebackers and would start anywhere they played. Chandler Perry of Dutch Fork is as physical a player as you will find and very athletic. He has 38 tackles on the season with 4 for loss and an interception for a touchdown. If he were two inches taller he’d have P5 offers to choose from. Andrew Jackson’s Fuller Sims is a player who gets his hat to the ball with bad intentions. He’s the second leading tackler in the MIdlands with 74 tackles, and has 3 interceptions and a forced fumble on the season. It’s hard to find a frame on the game films of the defense that he is not in. Dutch Fork’s John Beutow is a very physical player who plays at the linebacker spot and moves up with his hand on the ground at times. He has 39 tackles with 10 for loss and 3 sacks on the season. David Wilson of Spring Valley leads all tacklers in the MIdlands with 89. He has 1 sack on the season. Dutch Fork’s Jaylin Hinton is another ball hound, with 63 tackles on the season and an interception and forced fumble. Ridge View’s Josh Saddler has 39 tackles on the season and 9 for loss. He’s another that comes up as an edge rusher at times. I said in the preseason that CA Johnson’s Terrell Hopkins was one of the most under rated linebackers in the Midlands. He has 58 tackles on the season with 13 for loss and 7 sacks. He is one of the more physical guys on this list. Lugoff-Elgin’s Chander Rush is a fierce run stopper, with 44 tackles on the season and a tackle for loss and 1 sack. Lexington’s Jacob Schrodt has come on strong this season, collecting 45 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 sacks and an interception.
