The AC Flora Falcons are primed and ready for region play. They put on an offensive show at Chapin this past week with Markell Towsend rushing for more than 200 yards adn 2 scores and QB Carew Bates scoring 4 touchdowns through the air. They are unbeaten and have not really been in a close game this year. This week they travel to Westwood to take on a 1-4 Red Hawks team who are struggling on the defensive side of the football. They are giving up 39 points per game and that could be disaster for them this week. Their offense is moving the football through the air with QB Dylan O’Neal and WR Noah Jennings. But I don’t want to give off wrong impressions – AC Flora will win this game big.
QB AJ Brand
Irmo got a good win this past week over Airport and the return of starting QB AJ Brand was huge. The sophomore threw for 318 yards and rushed for 35 to lead the Jackets, while RB Erick Tucker had a big 200+ yards game as well. This team is better right now than they were in week one and their defense is playing better. They travel to take on Richland Northeast in region play this week. RNE is probably the biggest underachiever in the Midlands 4A right now. They have talent on the field. Their QB, whoh holds an offer from NC State, is talented. But they gibve up 34 a game on average and are scoring just 19 points per game. This Irmo team is not a good match up for them and I think this will be a big offensive week for the Jackets.
RB Sky Harter
Ridge View and Lugoff-Elgin square off this week and that will be a good football game. Ridge View is down a wide receiver to injury but they have improved on offense over the past several weeks. Their defense is playing well and has covered several games for the offense. Lugoff Elgin is 3-2 and showing some strength in the ground game with RB Sky Harter. This team is the best turn around I’ve seen in the Midlands nad they have shot in this game. Defensively, they will challge the Blazers with their linebackers. But I think they can move the ball against the Blazer defense and this is probably going to be the best 4A game in town this week.
Airport needs the ball in the hands of Apollos Cook to win.
Airport lost to Irmo this past week and looked dreadful on the offensive side of the football. They leave their defense out to dry and it will cost them in a lot of games. This week, they take on a winless Aiken team who has played some pretty good opponents. But this is a game that Airport should win and needs to win. If they can’t beat Aiken in this game, I’m not sure they can win a game in region play. They need efficiency from their QB and they need the ball in the hands of Kendell Strohman and Apollos Cook if they are going to get a victory.]
