3A Notebook Week Seven

QB Javion Martin

Crestwood was off this past week but this team is 3-2 and should probably be 4-1.They are dangerous on the offensive side of the football and lack of consistency has hurt them. QB Javion Martin and WR Nigel JOhnson are two of the Midlands’ top offensive players and give them a chance to win any game they are in. This week, they take on a 3-3 Lake City team that has not beaten a team with a winning record yet. They struggle on offense and they struggle against the run on defense. This Crestwood team has the talent to challenge for the region but they have to maintain consistency and limit mistakes/turn overs.

Grayson White

Camden pummelled Lake City in region play last week to go 1-0 in region. This team has struggled with turnovers in their losses but they are very capable of getting back to a title appearance if they play to their abilities. This week, they take on a Lakewood team that just has not found themselves yet. They have a good defense but this team is young on offense and just not getting it done. I do think they are capable of finishing top four but there is no way they beat Camden this week.

Brookland-Cayce is 2-3 after going through a murderers row non-conference schedule. The Bearcats have a lot of talent on this team and are very capable of winning their region but they must get some consistency in their offense. There are times they look unbeatable and times they look like a chaotic X-box team on offense. Defensively, they struggle against a good ground game but they have been outmatched in some of these powerhouse team match ups. This week, they take on a 1-4 Orangeburg-Wilkinson team who has some scary athleticism, but just cannot win against themselves. Their quarterback can run and throw but I don’t think they have it in them to beat a physical Bearcat team.

Chance Jennings

The Gilbert Indians have suffered back to back losses to 5A Lexington and 2A Saluda. Granted, both of those teams are ultra talented on offense. The bottom line is, this Gilbert team has the talent to compete with anyone on any night. But their vulnerability is that they are one dimensional on offense. They have two of the best running backs in the state in Alias Graham-Woodberry and Jaden Allen-Hendrix and their quarterback, Chance Jennings, is probably the best athlete on their team. But their passing game is not strong and when they face off in a team that can score points AND play defense, they are at a disadvantage. This week, they take on Lower Richland who has struggled to utilize their best athletes in their game plans. They are dangerous but honestly, I don’t think they are a good match defensively against this Indian team. I think Gilbert wins big over the the Hornets.

WR Caleb Timmons

Swansea is 3-2 after getting beaten down by Midland Valley, 48-0 last week. This Swansea team is imply not very good on the offensive side of the football. They are inefficient in the passing game and can’t seem to run the ball very well either. They face off against a Dreher team that is 1-4 and building from the ground up. They do have some kids that can play and are dangerous if they get their passing game going. Caleb Timmons is a speedster who can do damage and freshman WR Kaleb Kelly is a future star. If QB Colby Fuller can get protection and have a good game, this Dreher team couldl get a region win this week.
