Week six for 4A means region play for a lot of these schools. Time to get in that race to the playoffs.
-
AC Flora got a solid win this past week over Camden and did it with a balanced offense and a defense that would not break for the dangerous Camden offense. The Falcons are easily the team to beat in 4A Region 5. This week, they travel to Chapin to take on the Eagles before beginning region play next week against Westwood.’

The Ridge View Blazers beat up on Dreher, hanging 70 points on them this past week. This team’s offense is finally starting to fire up and at the right time. This week, they faace an improved Lugoff-Elgin team who is powered by the ground game. The Blazers defense has played strong all year so that will be a good match up against the Demons.
-
The Irmo Yellow Jackets shocked me last week when they went on the road and beat a very good Hartsville team and did it without their starting quarterback. They obvioiusly have improved on the defensive side of the football to limit the Red Foxes dynanic offense like they did. This week, they are on the road against an improving Airport team that will challenge the secondary.
-
Lugoff-Elgin is the most improved team in the Midlands 4A. I was concerned they would go winless this year and here they are at 3-2 after a win over Fort Mill this past week. Sky Harter has gone from unknown to one of the top backs in the Midlands and this week, they host a Ridge View team that will challenge them offensively. This is a region game.
-
The Airport Eagles are 2-3 after knocking off Fox Creek this past Friday. WR Apollos Cook is finally getting involved in games and has more than 400 yards receiving now. This week, they face an Irmo team that is hot off of a win over Hartsville. This should be a good game and it is the last non-region game for each of these teams.
-
Westwood finally got into the win column this past week with a win over Midland Valley and honestly was a game they were expected to win. They got a 300 yards game out of quarterback Dylan O’Neal and WR Noah Jennings is leading the Midlands in receiving yards. This week, they are off before beginning region play with AC Flora on the 30th.

Richland Northeast, so far, has not shocked anyone as they expected to in the preseason. They are struggling to score points and struggling on defense, sitting at 1-3. Quarterback Walt Wilson simply does not have the surrounding personnel to make him the danger he could be to opposing defenses. This week, they take on a winless Nation Ford team who has lost to four very good football teams.
