3A Notebook: Week Six

3A will beign region play this week for most teams. It’s time to shine of you’re gonna do it.

  • Chance Jennings

The Gilbert Indians took it on the chin against a good 5A Lexington team and were exposed for one thing – they cannot throw the football effectively. Chance Jennings is the passer but unfortunately, he’s also their best receiver. Their ground game is strong as ever with two great running backs. This week, they take on a dangerous 2A Saluda team.

  • QB Jacob Harper

The Tigers of Swansea beat CA Johnson this past week to go to 3-1 and will get one more non-region game against Midlands Valley this week before beginning a brutal region schedule next week. Fortunately, they begin with Dreher so they can ease into the region play.

  • Crestwood got a win this past week over North Central with a big game from QB Javion Martin and WR Nigel Johnson. They will be off this week before facing off with Lake City next week in their opening region game.
  • DB Jadyn Johnson

Broookland-Cayce got a good win over 5A Chapin with a strong ground game in the abscence of their quarterback, Tanner Staton. Naahzekiel Mays took the snaps and went for over 200 yards. This week, they Bearcats are off before beginning region play next week against Orangeburg-Wilkinson

  • Camden lost their third consecutive game this week – against AC Flora – and the Bulldogs seem to be in a bit of disaray on defense. They were unable to stop the Flora run game and that could be a concern. This week, they take on a 3-2 Lake City team that honestly should be a win but they need to clean up some things on both sids of the football as this is a region game.
  • Lakewood got worn out by a very good Andrew Jackson team this past week and could not stop the ground game. They will have a bye this week before beginning region play next week against Camden.
  • Lower Richland lost to a River Bluff team that they had a 13 point lead on in the first half. Their refusal to utilize all of their offensive weapons is going to hurt them when they begin region play. They are off this week but need to get things right on offense before they face Gilbert in their region opener next week or they will begin region play 0-1.
  • QB Anthony Mack

Orangeburg-Wilkinson lost a close game to Silver Bluff this past week. They put up good offensive numbers but they have faced a tough schedule. The combined record of the teams they’ve lost to is 16-3, with three of them unbeaten. They have a bye this week before opening region play with Brookland-Cayce next week.

  • The Dreher Blue Devils continue to struggle this season, giving up 70 points in a loss to Ridge View this past week. This team is young on both sides of the football and are going to struggle defensively in region play. They have a bye this week before opening up region with Swansea next week.
