Got to watch the whole tournament, these are my take aways.

106 - Winner Ty Tice is a stud I think he is Eastside next 4 timer

113 - Runner up Chris Compton should get another state championship ring this year.

120 - Heard from York also should get a state championship this year kid is solid top to bottom

126 - Vargo should win it unless Huntsburger drops in then I go 50/50 on that match

132- Wilkins as always is a solid wrestler, in the finals against Masters and only losing by 1 was impressive I think he wins his 4th at 132 -145 Soriano, Amaker, Huntsberger, fighting for the weight Wilkins vacates.

138 - again Bailey wins this weight if that’s where he ends up

145 - for 5A it gets interesting seeing an Emory vs Wilkins rematch would be fun but if I had to guess I would put Emory winning this.

152 - Got to watch the best match between Augustine and Stonecheck from GA. Augustine wins this weight in SC and would win 145-170, if he chooses in my opinion he is the best p4p wrestler in the state across all divisions

160 - didn’t see much at the slam here for SC but I heard lots of kids are injured but returning (Ryan Augustine, Ben Maholtz)

170 - Green in the finals looked great, he jumped a few weight classes

182- Haile made an impressive appearance here but I don’t think he beats Stephenson from Hillcrest

195 - Ekanem from Southpoint looked good - would like to see him vs Riley from TR wrestle.

220- Dean vs Dixon was a match that could go either way. If those are our state finalists it should be fun to see who is on top

HWT - I’m usually not a HWT guy but McRea from Byrnes is going to be hard to beat.

As always The Southern Slam didn’t Disappoint, this tournament is ran so smoothly and is the best in SC every year.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend but going thru the brackets there looks to have been some really good match-ups.

Desilva-Singleton is a top 25 match-up nationally and I'm sure was very fun to watch.

152 and 132 were absolute minefields. 3 D1 commits at 152 and none of them won. Augustine and Stonecheck was a war by all accounts. Augustine has a win over Weston at Super 32. He's right there with the best guys in the Southeast. 132 a grinder as well. Master is really really tough and going to be very solid for Princeton one day. Wilkins is so gritty, he wins the close ones. Rumfelt not placing is proof how deep this weight was.

Really great day by a few SC Juniors. Green pinning a U Penn recruit, Malachi Wiley, is probably the most impressive win of the day for an SC kid. Heard didn't seem to have much trouble other than his semi's with Layton from Indian Land. Compton steady as always and Amaker wrestling back for 3rd after an upset loss round out really good days for Class of 2021 SC kids.

It's impressive what Koz and Co. have built this tournament into. It's a great kickoff to the start of the season.

It was a great tournament with some very deep weight classes. Good early test for the wrestlers.

I thought it was well officiated also. Saw very few coaches at the tables.

195 - Issac Ekanem from south pointe didn’t look good at all against Brett carder from lugoff, it was a dominant match by carder until he made a mistake and Ekanem capitalized with 16 second to go in the match.

220 - dean from lugoff also had a very dominating tournament and dixon was not close to beating him in the finals. it will be fun to see who dean wrestles this year at the state tournament

Dixon beat him in the team match. No reason to get on here and bash wrestlers because you're a Lugoff fan. GATA and be better

Nobody was bashing Ekanem, the kid has multiple state placements and a state title going into his senior year and has been a force in South Pointe’s lineup for the last three years. That said, Carder was dominant throughout the match until the closing seconds of the third period. Scotty Dean ran through the tournament. Period. To say otherwise is disrespectful to that young man after a great tournament run. Dixon wasn’t competitive in that match. You are entitled to your opinion but that doesn’t mean you can negate a fact. L-E homer or not that’s the truth of the matter. Again both great wrestlers from Chapin and South Pointe and good luck to both kids this season.

Eastside continues to look solid (shocking), River Bluffs lineup is strong as well. Haile is going to be competitive at either 182 or 195 but Stephenson will be a tuff hill to climb. Emery and Wilkins would be a dog fight of a match for sure. Green looks great up at 170. Byrnes is going to be a state championship caliber team. Over all I think as a state we had a solid showing among the absolutely stacked lineup at the slam. Hats off to Koz for bringing in quality teams and putting on a phenomenal tournament every year.

I am not bashing the wrestlers from Chapin or South Pointe, both are solid kids but you have to give credit where credit is due. overall the tournament was well ran and is getting more fun to watch every year

some Of the middle weights are stacked in 5A.

126- Vargo and Sturgeon.  Add Hunsberger if he drops.  Sturgeon has already dropped to 126.

132- Wilkins,  Soriano, Strange (Woodmont)  and Hunsberger( if he stays up)

138- Lawson, Emery and J.B.

145 - Amaker and Kitts

several tough Hillcrest kids in these weights that could win or pull some upsets.

Reading through the comments above and I’m curious to know if predictions have changed from first weekend of December until now.  Who you got now?

Moxie is most likely to wear pants with holes in them in the finals. Ted Monroe is most likely to miss coaching one of his kids matches because he was in the middle of a story about something that happened at the state tournament in 1983. The Eastside coaching staff is predicted to break the state record for deepest imprint left in the corner of a wrestling mat.

*Honestly, if that group ever wanted to walk on one of my wrestling mats, I'd demand that they put on some old school snowshoes first just to spread out that load. cf66d0453fa38c4faacef4db21b0f657--snowsh

Dylan Layton has been wrestling 120, so there is no IF there. The only question is does he stay there or go UP to 126.

I think Shawn Haile can beat the Hillcrest kid Stevenson. If Riley from TR can take Stevenson to overtime at the Greenville county tournament. Haile have a chance to win 5a State at 182.I like to know y'all opinion.

After seeing that match and watching Haile I couldn’t agree more. However, Haile bumped to 195 to avoid him so I don’t think it will happen.
