    Playoffs

Was one of the better high school duals I've ever seen in this state. Lot of top 5 / top 8 match ups which was awesome. It looked like from the stands that LE was not expecting to give up 6 points at 113. You could see some of the air deflate out of that side after 113.
  2. With that being the case does Hill retain his title at 195???
  3. Some schools only have one paid coach to begin with. From what I gathered this weekend many of the coaches who were at JV/MS State are purely volunteers. Many of those essentially gave up an ENTIRE saturday to help out for free. Asking them to give up a Friday afternoon / evening plus all day Saturday may be asking too much. The school districts that have paid middle school coaches can easily pull it off, but the districts that are paying for just a varsity head coach are in a tough spot.
  4. Hack here. If you go to Sports Engine who supports the sc grappler website you can register for free with sports engine. THEN go to the scgrappler page and join that page. It will ask you if you want to join using your sport engine account, click YES. THEN you can access all scgrappler content for FREE. trust me, just did this and it worked.

  6. So what we're really asking is......"what did the President know? and when did he know it?"
  7. I BELIEVE they were trying to get coaches feedback on individual rankings early on but coaches are often times unreliable themselves when it comes to knowing who is who. In a state where the turnover rate for wrestling coaches is well HIGH its up to the vets around the state to make those ranking decisions and also remember coaches only can truly comment on what they see. So if you only compete regionally how can anyone from the upstate truly know who is good in the midlands or coast. Coaches can sometimes sand bag their teams or kids as well. Individual rankings this time of year are well meaningless. Kids are still dropping weight or making decisions going into January about where to best set themselves up for a chance to qualify for state / win state.
  8. No place for that sort of thinking here. Our internet bill of rights gives us the right to criticize our fellow man from behind a screen.

    realignment

This to me would make the most sense out of any idea anyone would ever come up with. On another note, still not sure why they don't do realignment by sport. This would eliminate byes come playoff time and would also make each class more equitable in terms of playoff participants. Another indicator of the HSL's apathy is the whole move charter and private schools up a class issue. Roughly a half dozen states already do this and while there is certainly blow back from private schools in these states somehow it gets done.

    South Carolina Wrestling Mt. Rushmore

But would SC's Mount Rushmore be able to beat North Carolina's Mount Rushmore at an all-star event in early March?
  12. https://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/2019/05/sad-but-necessary-changes-could-be-coming-to-piaa-wrestling-weight-classes.html Article out of PA says it would go into effect for the 2020-2021 season. So we got a ways to go it looks like.
  13. https://www.thestate.com/sports/high-school/prep-football/article227504224.html Had read something about this a month prior. Now its official to begin starting with 2020-22. Essentially instead of using the 135-day head count they are now going to use the 45-day count. And instead of using grades 9-12 the HSL will use grades 9-11. Couple of quick observations. A.) Using 9-11 makes more sense seeing as how those current seniors won't be around anyways. B.) Will be interesting to see if using 45 days versus 135 makes a difference at all. I'm sure some schools have worse attrition rates between the end of Q1 and the end of Q3 than some schools. Not sure where the cut off will be however, at least the article did not indicate this information. Thoughts???

    Realignment proposal passes

Here is the best I can figure 3A would look like. Remember though these classifications are in keeping with the notion that the SCHSL would keep 48 schools in 5A, 40 schools in 4A and 44 schools in 3A. The initial proposal that I saw had something like 43 schools in each. So 43 in 5A, 43 in 4A ad 43 in 3A. All of that remains to be seen it sounds however. Only Avg, IMO quite the contrary. 4A could lose Eastside but gain Chapin back along with gaining Indian Land and Gilbert. Essentially losing 1 DOMINANT program and replacing it with 3 VERY good / competitive teams. Realignment proposal passes

https://www.heraldonline.com/sports/high-school/article218653850.html Will be interesting to see the impact the new Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill has on Fort MIll and Nation Ford high schools. Article says the school will open with grades 9-11. The HSL said in the article the new school would be in region 3-4A BUT with these new realignment developments what will happen to the 9-11 enrollments for Fort Mill and Nation Ford remains to be seen. Would all 3 schools now be in 4A??? https://www.moultrienews.com/news/bengals-will-be-beckham-high-s-official-mascot/article_28c8d4b6-5f62-11e8-b4f3-cf33c047ab1f.html Lucy Beckham High School is set to open in August 2020 essentially taking kids away from the largest school in the state Wando. Not that that will make Wando a 4A school by any means but it does add another a variable to the equation. https://abcnews4.com/news/education-news/hundreds-will-go-to-stratford-instead-of-cane-bay-after-bcsd-redraws-lines There is also rezoning taking place currently in Berkeley County in regards to Cane Bay and Stratford. Both schools are large enough not to have any classification impact it seems. https://www.wyff4.com/article/the-gcs-facilities-most-requested-for-reassignment-through-lottery/26239157 Eastside High School this past winter received the greatest number of "assignment changes" for any high school in the GCSD. 216 assignment requests in total. How many of those are already attending Eastside from outside their geocode it does not indicate. Does not necessarily mean 216 NEW assignment requests. But come October 2019 Eastside could be in the mix to be a 5A school.

Under the new realignment formula here is what 5A MIGHT look like for the 2020-22 cycle. Bare in mind this is using the 45 day count in October, 2018. IF the SCHSL still decides to use the top 48 schools to make up 5A. Currently 5A is at 48 schools and 4A is at 40 schools. See what happens in October, 2019 I guess. Team SC VS Team NC

Someone with greater memory than I would be able to verify this but didn't the coaches association try this with a Georgia all-star team years back with similar outcomes?

    5A State Qualifiers

ACTUALLY if it were up to me we'd eliminate the duals or shorten it down (none of the classifications needs a 32 team bracket) AND then crown a duals champ and a team champ at individual state. Then in true William Tecumseh Sherman spirit I'd burn this state to the ground.
  21. utrocket99

    5A State Qualifiers

Some how Ohio crowns a state champ in both duals and at the individual tournament (been crowning a team champ at individual state since the 20s, just started crowning a duals champ a few years ago). Surely SC is not above doing something similar.

    5A State Qualifiers

This poses an interesting discussion / debate. Which method of crowning a state wrestling team champ is most appropriate? Duals or Individual State? Below is SOME data to support both sides I think, although many I'm sure will say it's a push either way and it really doesn't matter as more often than not the duals winner is also the team that scores the most team points at individual state. Again, with a few anomalies the winner of the duals is usually the best team at individual state as well or at least they are close behind. The 2017 RB squad and the 2014 Rock Hill team stand out in this regard. 2018 - rock hill (duals), fort d(ind.), rock hill finished 2nd at individuals 2017 - river bluff (duals champ), fort d (ind.), interesting that river bluff was the duals champ and therefore the official state champ but finished 8th at individuals 2016 - Dorman clean sweep both duals and individuals 2015 - rock hill won duals, couldn't find team scores from individuals for this year 2014 - rock hill won duals but summerville won individuals, rock hill finished 8th at individuals 2013 - Lexington had a clean sweep of both 2012 - Hillcrest won duals, finised 5th at individuals, Lexington won individual state 2011 - Hillcrest clean sweep of both 2010 - Fort D clean sweep of both 2009 - Rock Hill won duals state and finished 2nd at individual state while fort d took 1st at individuals 2008 - Summerville clean sweep of both 2007 - Fort D takes duals state, finished 2nd at individuals, Hillcrest wins individual state 2006 - Summerville clean sweep 2005 - Summerville clean sweep 2004 - Summerville clean sweep
