There are three teams to talk about in the Midlands 2A that could make noise deep in the playoffs and there is separation between those three. I feel that Saluda is a notch above Gray Collegiate and those two are separated by the rest by a good margin. The closest team to either of them is Batesburg Leesville.
Saluda got a big win last week over Strom Thurmond and this week pummeled a weak Ridge Spring-Monetta team behind a six TD performance by QB Noah Bell. Gray Collegiate crushed Swansea and QB Hunter Helms passed for over 400 yards for the second straight week. Batesburg-Leesville lost to Gilbert but put up a good fight and their QB, Trey threw for 212 yds and 3 TDs in the loss.
REGION 2-2A
Saluda and Batesburg-Leesville are in the SEC of 2A Football, with Abbeville, Ninety Six, Silver Bluff and Fox Creek. I think Saluda has a team that can compete with Abbeville and that could be the showdown we are headed for to decide that region crown. Batesburg-Leesville has the talent to finish in the top four in this region and make noise in the play offs.
REGION 3-2A
An all-Midlands region, Gray Collegiate is the team to beat in this region and that is not even debatable. Calhoun County, who shut out Pelion on Friday, is a team I think could grab the second spot but will get a challenge from Columbia. The Caps lost 27-20 to a bad North Central team this week. I think Eau Claire and CA Johnson, who both lost this week, will battle for the fourth spot in this region.
