AUDIBLE FROM THE COACH: We will be very young again in a lot of places, but most of our young guys played major roles for us last year. We are moving to 5-A and most people won’t give us a chance. We want to be able to compete the best we can and let the chips fall.

Chapin had a solid season in 2017, going 3-1 in region play. Their offense was respectable but not as explosive as it has been in the past. Their defense gave up 19 points per game. This season, they move in to a very tough 5A region where they will be challenged by the week-in-week-out competition against teams that will have more depth than them. It will be different, as the Eagles face seven 5A opponents this season.

My take: This team has the talent at the top of their depth chart to compete with most of the teams in their region. I believe it is in the depth that they will suffer. That said, this is a team that I feel could finish as high a third in the region in their first year in 5A
