Midlands Class 5A Notebook Week Eleven

Green scored a school recrod 7 touchdowns.

The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes took care of business with the River Bluff Gators and did so in doinate fashion. The allowed 184 yards of offense, mostly to the back up defense after the running clock began. 56 of those yards came on one run by RB Cooper Johns, so the Silver Fox defense actually gave up an average of 2.9 yards per play to the Gators. Jarvis Green had a career night, breaking the school record for touchdowns in a game with 7. This week, the Foxes take on Lexington for the Region Championship. Winner goes to the upstate bracket, loser to the lower state bracket for the playoffs.

Lexington played Aiken to a running clock, as well. RB Jonah Norris rushed for 99 yards in limited action, but scored two touchdowns in the process. The defense allowed just 51 yards and forced Aiken to punt the ball 6 times. This week, the Wildcats host Dutch Fork in a showdown to determine the region championship and playoff positioning.

Blythewood got a win over Rock Hill this past week to clinch the Region Championship. The Bengals are 4-0 in region play and will take on Spring Valley this week in a game that will not change the fate of either team. Spring Valley, win or lose, will finish in the fourth spot in this region.

White Knoll beat Chapin with big offense, but the defense allowed points that they should not have. The Timberwolves take on a TL Hanna team in a game that means nothing to either. The more important game for the White Knoll is the Chapin vs River Bluff game.

RB Cooper Johns rushed for 134 yards against Dutch Fork.

River Bluff was pummeled by Dutch Fork this past week and the defense was absolutely shredded. Offensively, there was little the Gators could do and ended up with 184 total yards and a late, meaningless, touchdown. They take on Chapin this week and a win over the Eagles will give the Gators sole possession of 3rd place in the region and a trip to the upperstate bracket for the playoffs. A loss to Chapin, however, would create a three way tie for that third spot, with the Gators, White Knoll and Chapin all 1-3 in region play if that happens.

Sumter got a win over St James last week to clinch their region crown. This week they will take on Conway in a game that really means nothing to the Gamecocks but is important to Conway. A loss by Sumter still leaves them with the region crown, but would give Conway a chance to improve to a 3 seed and possibly a 2 seed with help.

Spring Valley lost to Nation Ford this past week and will take on Blythewood this week. The Vikings could possibly move to a third seed with a win over the Bengals combined with a Clover win over Nation Ford. But more than likely, this team will be seeing the 4 seed in the playoff bracket.
