Dutch Fork is slowly morphing into the type of team we are used to seeing. QB Aliam Appler gives the Foxes run game some pressure relief with a passing threat. This defense, though, is stout. They held WK to 46 yards last week and this past Friday held Chapin to 29 total yards and -2 yards rushing.
Lexington, despite winning this week, was exposed on defense. I said many weeks ago I was concerned with lack of speed on defense and White Knoll took advantage of that with a short passing game, putting up 443 yards through the air. Keeping things in front of you is one thing but lack of breaking speed limits their range of coverage.
Gray continues to get stronger as the season grows long. QB Riley Staton passed for 5 TDs against Newberry and this team’s offense is playoff ready. Their defense, however, is not at the level it needs to be for them to repeat as a Champion. Both 2A Upper and Lower state are going to be good. Abbeville gets the services of RB Antonio Harrison back this week and that makes them a favorite in upstate; Oceanside in lower state is a favorite.
Blythewood knocked off region favorite Clover Friday night and this team is playing their best football right now. Defensively, they are very strong and QB Harrison Collins is playing as well as any signal caller in the Midlands. This region crown could actually come down to the Spring Valley game in the final regular season game for each team.
Brookland Cayce looked strong against Dreher but truthfully, Dreher is not very good this year. They are improved, but not ready for prime time. What was revealing, however, was just how one dimensional Brookland-Cayce is. As good as their ground game is with multiple formations and multiple backs, they are still an off tackle and around the end running team. The pass game is not anywhere close to effective and while it may earn them a region crown if they can beat Gilbert, it will not get them last the 3rd round of the playoffs and maybe not even the 2nd round.
