Midlands 5A Notebook: Week Nine

Safety Brayden Woolbright picked off two Gator passes

Lexington, after eight weeks, has proven they are exactly who I said they were in the preseason – the most explosive ofense in the Midlands. They roughed up rival River Bluff this past week with 257 yards and 4 TDs from RB Jonah Norris and a defense that gets better each week. Junior safety Brayden Woolbright snagged two interceptions to move him into third overall in the Midlands INT leaders. This week, the Wildcats take on a White Knoll team who is on a two game skid.’

Chandler Perry
Chandler Perry had a huge defensive game

Dutch Fork simply dominated White Knoll this week and got back a missing piece of their offense, QB Aliam Appler. He made a differenc on offense, rushing for 80 yards and 2 scores and passing for 127 yards and another touchdown. LB Chandler Perry led a defense that allowed just 49 yards of total offense to the Timberwolves. This week, the Foxes are home against Chapin.

Blythewood got a solid win over Nation Ford and remains unbeaten in region play. They got big play from quarterback Harrison Collins again this week. This week, the Bengals take region favorite Clover.

Sumter got a region win over Socastee this past week with strong ground game behind their offensive line and this week take on Carolina Forest who will be the only challenge they have in this region.

RB Cooper Johns had a 250 yards rushing performance

River Bluff got outmached against Lexington this past week. They got an outstanding game from RB Cooper Johns. I will say that from a planning standpoint, the Gators did what they needed to do as far as inserting a passing game. They through the ball 17 times which should have been sufficient. But they only completed 8 of those and they also had two interceptions so it wasn’t efficient. This week, they are off before taking on Dutch Fork next week.

White Knoll; I don’t know what to say. 49 yards of total offense is not good, and yes, I know it was against Dutch Fork. But this team should have been able to move the football a little better. Defensively, they didn’t play terrible but having a curve ball thrown at them with the return of QB Aliam Appler and really not knowing what he was capable of was a disadvantage. This week, the Timberwolves take on Lexington in a heated rivalry.

Spring Valley took on their Region favorite, Clover and came up short. They only got 33 yards rushing and that hurt them against this Clover team. They travel to Fort Mill this week and should be able to get a win there to but them in contention for 2nd place in the region in a showdown in the final regular season game with Blythewood.

Chapin was off this past week and will take on Dutch Fork this week. I don’t think this is going to be a very pretty game. The Eagles’ defense will not be able to stop Dutch Fork and their offense will not move the ball against Dutch Fork’s defense. This game will be as lopsided as Tom Knotts wants it to be in the end.
