Week Eight is in the books and there were some revealing events in the Midlands.
First of all, Dutch Fork Has their legs under them again. The return of a healthy QB Aliam Appler seemed to be just what the Silver Foxes have been missing as the offense was in synch this week in their 52-0 pummeling of White Knoll. Appler had 129 yards passing and 80 rushing for a total of three scores. He also enables the ground game to open up and RB Jarvis Green rushed for 157 yards and 3 scores. Defensively, the Foxes held White Knoll to 49’yards of total offense. This team is primed and ready for a run to the region crown and beyond.
Lexington dominated every phase of the game against River Bluff and made it look easy. RB Jonah Norris went for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns. WR Jerrod Mewborn was a star, with 135 yards receiving and 3 scores. Brayden Woolbright picked off two Gator passes to thwart drives. This Lexington defense is getting better and it makes the eventual match up with Dutch Fork intriguing. River Bluff got good play from their ground game but the passing game is so inconsistent that it makes them a one dimensional offense.
Gray Collegiate essentially won their region with a great win over Fairfield Central. This was a hard fought game between both but the takeaway is that this War Eagle team that sputtered out of the gates this season is peaking.
Ridge View’s offense managed to get the better of Irmo and it took an overtime score to do it. Adonis McDaniel had 144 receiving yards and a touchdown and also added a touchdown with an 80 yard kick return. They are setting up a showdown with AC Flora for what will be for the region crown.
Calhoun County continues to be the top 1a team in the Midlands with a 42-27 win over Denmark-Olar. The Saints got three second half scores from Justen Brunson and are headed on a collision course with Wagener-Salley for what should be the region crown.
