Midlands 2024 Midseason Position Rankings: Defensive Line

The Class of 2024 Position Rankings for Midseason is here and there are several positions that are heavy with talent. These position rankings will definitely change by the end of the season but these are how we see them right now at the mid-season mark.

The defensive line group is not as deep in this class right now because it is a senior heavy group. But the guys that are here from the 2024 class are some of the best in the Midlands regardless of class.

Edward Robinson

Blythewood’s Edward Robinson is a one man wrecking crew in offensive backfields. He has 62 tackles on the season and leads the Midlands in tackles for loss (20) and sacks (15). Lexington’s Montrell Byrd is a bit undersized as a defensive end but he is a freaking playmaker for the Wildcats. He has 39 tackles on the season with 9 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He is athletic enough to drop to an OLB at the next level. Sumter’s Jaheme Rose, like Robinson, is disruptive for offenses. He has 38 tackles on the season but 12.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks. Terrance Wells of Dutch Fork can play down or up at linebacker and does both. He has 29 tackles on the year with 6 for loss and 3 sacks.

Braxton Burton

Braxton Burton for AC Flora has 26 tackles on the season with 6 for loss. Brandon Pontoon of Wagener-Salley is a monster in the middle of that defensive front, with 46 tackles, 12 for loss and 4 sacks. As you can imagine, he dominates his 1A Classification. Dakota Jordan of Dutch Fork has 24 tackles, 3 for loss, 3 sacks and 6 QB hurries. He gets after the QB as a rusher. White Knoll’s Leroy Simmons lnes up at nose and is one of the best run-gap stuffers in the Midlands. He’s got good feet for a big man and has 25 tackles, 2 for loss so far this season. Hammond’s Connor Stephens is an overlooked guy because of the SCISA tag, but this kid can play. He has 25 tackles on the season with 6 for loss and 4 sacks. Fairfield-Central’s Amos Bell is a bit short at the interior line but he is effective. He has 49 tackles and 6 for loss for the Grifins.
