The Calhoun County Saints seem to be the team to beat in the Midlands 1A arena. They were off this past week but put their 5-1 mark on the line against a one loss Denmark Olar team this week. The Saints are dangerous with their ground game and Ahmir Smith is leading the way. This should be a good game this week.
Wagener-Salley is 4-3 and one of the more dangerous offensive teams in the MIdlnds 1A. They had no trouble disposing of Williston-Elko this past week with a 41-6 win after a big game from quarterback Cam Davis. This week, the War Eagles of idle.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler is 0-3 in region play after losing to Blackville-Hilda last week. This week, they take on a winless Williston-Elko team that they hope can give them their first region win.
CA Johnson dropped their region opener this past week to Lewisville and honestly, I can’t figure this team out. They are dangerous offensively and have the makings of a good defense. Granted, they lost to some good teams this season but they should be playing better than they are. This week, they take on Great Falls, who lost to Whitmire and if we are using that as a measruing stick, this should be a win for CA Johnson.
Ridge Spring-Monetta has been a team that played nowhere near to what I expected this season. They are 1-1 in region play after getting hammered by Denmark Olar last week. I will say that they have played a tough schedule this year with a young team but we are seven weeks into the season so using the “young” excuse is not valid at this point. This week, they take on a 1-5 Blackville-Hilda team with which they should be competitive.
