Dutch Fork will play host to White Knoll after being off this past week. The Silver Foxes are slowly getting healthy and getting all of their pieces back. The question is, will their offense be any better than the one dimension they used for most of the first six weeks? RB Jarvis Green is healthy and they now have QB Aliam Appler back. But will the passing game be any more effective than we saw the first couple of weeks of the season? They take on a White Knoll team who is coming off a loss to River Bluff in a game they probably should have won.
The Timberwloves have a bleeding problem in that they turn the ball over too much. In fact, 11 turnovers in the first seven games, three of which cost them last week’s game. If they turn the ball over like that against Dutch Fork, this will be a massacre. They have a good running game with Jesse Ross and the short passing game is effective, as well. Sophomore quarterback Landon Sharpe hsa a good arm and a lot of potential but young quarterbacks need to enter games knowing their capabilities and their limitations or it can be disastorous for an offense. Defensively, I like this football team. They play well at the linebacker position and in the secondary. Up front, ends got tangled up too much against River Bluff. But one thing is for certain: this football team has greatly improved under Coach Nick Pelham.
It’s rival week at Lexington as the Wildcats host River Bluff. The Wildcats are coming off of a sloppy, but convincing, win over a bad Chapin team. The ground game continues to be their best friend but if the winds are down this week, we could see the ball in the air. RB Jonah Norris had 200+ total yards against Chapin and the defense played well, albeit unchallenged. LB Christian Sexton played like an animal against Chapin and turned in one of the best LB performances I’ve seen this year. This week will be a different story. They will get a challenge from a strong ground game and should be prepared for the Gators to possibly attack the air, as well.
River Bluff beat a White Knoll that gifted them three offensive possessions. Their ground game is strong but this week, they will need to throw the football at least 15 to 20 times. Lexington has seen a strong ground game in Gilbert and shut it down because their was no passing threat. If the Gators will throw it this week, this game will be very competitive. RB Cooper Johns should have a good game this week, running behind an impressive offensive line. Parker Murray could have a good game if he’s able to throw the football. Lexington lacks speed on the backside of their defense and could be vulnerable there.
Chapin will be off this week after dropping a game to Lexington last week and will take on Dutch Fork next Friday.
Spring Valley got an impressive region win over Rock Hill this past week and did so on the running of Zion Fuller, who rushed for 270 yards, giving the Vikings much needed offense that they have not enjoyed this season. Their defense is playing well, particularly at the linebacker spot. This week, they face a Clover team who is the favorite to win the region. The Blue Eagles are loaded on both sides of the football and could very well give the Vikings their first region loss.
Blythewood beat the the brakes off of Fort Mill last week, as expected, and did it with strong performances from their quarterback Harrison Collins and their defense. The Bengals have back to back wins now over Goose Creek and Fort Mill and this week will take on a Nation Ford team that is struggling this year with a 1-5 record.
