4A Notebook: Week Four

WR/DB Chris Lofton

The AC Flora Falcons are the No. 2 team in the Midlands and well deserved. They were off this past week but take their 2-0 mark to Brookland-Cayce this week to take on the Bearcats. The Falcons are playing well at every phase of the game and their special teams is a feature with WR Chris Lofton doing big damage as a return specialist. Brookland-Cayce will play the Falcons tough at times but their inconsitency will doom them in the end of this game. The Falcons need to be certain not to overlook the Bearcats while they look twoards Camden next week.

Zion Agnew

The Ridge View Blazers got a good win over Lower Richland and the first signs of life on offense. WR Zion Agnew had 9 receptions for 215 yards and 3 scores in that win. The defense is playing as good as any defense in the Midlands. The secondary is strong and the linebackers are even stronger. This week, they face a Spring Valley team who is struggling on offense but plays strong at linebacker on defense. The Vikings have been plagued by turnovers so that could be a big factor in this game.

Irmo QB AJ Brand

Irmo lost to River Bluff this week but were without their quarterback, AJ Brand. I will just say it; Irmo cannot win without Brand in the game. He is their most dynamic athlete and, thus far, the only threat to move the chains. Defensively, these guys play hard but get put in some bad spots when the offense fails to at least win field position battles. This week, they are off and hopefully will get Brand back before they face Hartsville next week. Hartsville will be the toughest team they see in regular season this year.

Apollos Cook

Airport got their first win this week with solid play from their quarterback and wide receiver Apollos Cook. Cook, one of the state’s best offensive players was an impacton the game for the first time this season with three touchdown receptions. This team is searching for their groove and have the athletes. They are better than their 1-2 record would indicate. This week, they travel to face a 1-2 Lugoff-Elgin team who will hit them with a very good ground game and a good set of linebackers.

Will Wilson

Richland Northeast fell to 1-2 with a loss to 2A Keenan. I honestly cannot figure this team out. They have talent to win. They are young, but goodness they have a Power Five talent at quarterback in Will Wilson. I’d hate to be the team they are playing when everthing finallyh clicks. They are off this week and will work on getting to that point before seeing Spring Valley next week.

Sky Harter

Lugoff-Elgin got in the win column this past week against Darlington. While Darlington is not a very good team, this was a good win for a young team’s morale. The Demons have found some identity on offense with running back Sky Harter, who’s rushed for more than 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. Defensively, they are getting better with their linebackers KD Outten and Chandler Rush playing very well. This week, they face Airport who is a very similar team and this should be a good match up.

Westwood was pounded by rival Blythewood and this Red Hawk team just cannot find a means to move the football, nor a means to stop others from moving it against them. They’ve been outscored 124-34 in three games and this week they face a White Knoll team that will come at them with a strong defense. As it stands now, I only see one team on this schedule they can beat, possibly two.
