1A Notebook: Week Four

QB/DB Marquez Davenport

The Calhoun Conty Saints are 2-1 after knocking off Battery Creek this past Friday. The Saints may have the best team speed of any of the 1A teams in the Midlands and they run the ball very well with their flexbone offense. Defensively, they are fast and fly to the ball. Their speed takes away the edge for anone trying to hit the outside. This week, they face an 0-2 Burke team and should get a win.

LB Terrell Hopkins

CA Johnson got a good win over North Central this past week behind the play of Caleb Pearson and DeJaylin Jacobs. Pearson has now rushed for 299 yards while Jacobs has rushed for 3 scores and passed for 2 in the three games. This week, the Hornets travel to Wade Hampton to face a 3-0 team. It will be a bit more challenging than North Central and they will need their best defensive performance.

Wagener Salley is 1-2 after back to back losses to Lewisville and Lake Marion. The War Eagles have the makings of a very good team but are playing young. They have some outstanding talent with QB/DB Cam Davis and DL Brandon Pontoon but this week they face off with a Swansea team that will probably not be a good match up man-by-man for the War Eagles.
