The best tickets involving Midlands teams for this week, if you’re looking for something to do and have some gas to burn.
Crestwood at Andrew Jackson
This is a good match up. I feel like Crestwood is as good as any 3A playoff contender when they play well. They just play too inconsistent. They have an exciting player to watch in junior QB Javion Martin. Andrew Jackson is a very good 2A team and I believe this team is going to be deep in the playoffs. Keep an eye on RB Trey Thompson for a big game for the Vols. My Pick: Andrew Jackson
Hartsville at Camden
This is a huge match up. Camden is loaded and QB Grayson White will cause problems for anyone. However, this Hartsville team runs an offense that cannot be replicated at practice in preparation and no one runs it with the speed and efficiency that they do. They give up a lot of size to Camden but they are very fast in skills players and are aggressive on defense. This is the match up of the week. My Pick: Hartsville
South Aiken at Gilbert
This is worth the drive just to see the South Aiken quarterback, Terrance Smith. He is entertaining and will do the bulk of any damage done to the Giblert defense. Gilbert has two strong running backs and that is their strength. I really don’t believe they match up well with South Aiken but I do believe they will be the better coached team. Will that be enough? My Pick: South Aiken
Stratford at Lexington
The Stratford Knights are 0-1 after a loss to Avon (Oh) in week one. They could not muster any points against the Ohio team, who played in their state semi-finals a year ago. They are going to run the football against Lexington and possibly use a couple of tight ends to just pound it. I don’t think the Stratford defense can hold Lexington’s offense as well as they did Avon. My Pick: Lexington
Ridge View at Lower Richland
I talked about this game earlier in the week and have not changed my mind. The Diamond Hornets are struggling on offense and I honestly don’t think they are utilizing their players in a way to benefit the team. I would be getting the ball in the hands of Nate Branch, even if I had to snap it to him. Ridge View has it’s own struggles on offense to deal with but their defense is playing great. MyPick: Ridge View
Dutch Fork at Creekside (Ga)
The Silver Foxes travel to Atlanta to participate im the Cam Newton Classic and take on Creekside, who made it to the Georgia state semi-finals last season, losing to eventual state champion Warner Robbins. This should be a game swing to Dutch Fork. They are going to be bigger than Creekside, have more depth, and have the better defense. The concern for me is the Dutch Fork offense has been one dimensional thus far in the season. I don’t think they have a quarterback that can sling it around the yard and will rely on the stellar offensive line and the ground game. My Pick: Dutch Fork
Gray Collegiate at South Atlanta (Ga)
Also participating in the Cam Newton Classic, the War Eagles drew South Atlanta, who lost in the Georgia 2A Quarter finals last season. The Hornets have two very good running backs in Jontez Adams and KeyJuan Brown, who combined for 278 yards and 5 TDs last week. Brown is a Purdue commit. Gray has struggled this year with their only real bright spot has been QB Riley Staton putting up 300 yards last week against Crestwood. Gray can ill afford to have their defense unwravel in the second half this week.
