West Columbia (SC) There are several story lines to watch as we head into the Week One games for Midlands football teams and one of those is the youth brigade that will be taking the field as starters for their respective teams. Here is a look at the young ones to watch this week!
There will be at least seven sophomore quarterbacks leading their teams this week as we embark on the 2022 football season. Irmo’ s AJ Brand (6’1,185) showed
this past weekend he has the right stuff to lead his team, passing for three scores an rushing for two in his team’s win over Mid Carolina. River Bluff’s Parker
Murray (6’1,190) will lead the Gators into batte against Lugoff-Elgin, who also has a sophomore starter at quarterback in Jake Morris (6’5,190), a Clemson baseball commit. White Knoll travels to Orangeburg Wilkinson with their sophomore, Landon Sharpe (5’11,175). Shapre started the second half of last season for the Timberwolves. Swansea’s Jake Harper (6’0,170) is another sophomore leading his team and Richland Northeast has sophomore Will Wilson (6’2,205) in charge of the Cavarliers’ offense. Chapin will be going with Brady Albright (5’10,175) at Quarterback.
Other notable sophomores starting this week will be Aiden Mosely (5’11,185) for AC Flora. He is a running back/linebacker and will see time on one side of the ball or other. AC Flora’s Sterling Reese (6’1,185) will start at defensive back. Brookland-Caytce will see Trequan Singleton (5’11, 260) on the defenisve front. Chapin’s Tanner Short (5’10,190) will start at linebacker and played a lot as a freshman. Dreher’s Willie Smith (6’0,195) will get the nod at running back and linebacker
for the Blue Devils. River Bluff’s Pac Pitts (6’5, 245) will be on the offensive line for the Gators, and Stephen Collier (6’3,200) will start at DB and WR for the Gators. Grau Collegiate has two sophomore running backs, Caleb Ford (5’10,220) and BJ Montgomery (5’9,170) who will be their one-two punch. Irmo’s Terrin Bowman (6’0,170) will start at WR for the Jackets. and Westwood’s Dekantee Mack (6’4,235) will start at defensive end for the Redhawks.
What does it all mean? It means football fans in the Midlands are in for a treat for the next three seasons as we watch these young men develope and climb towards their peak.
