West Columbia (SC) The dress rehearsals for the 2022 football season are this week with the jamboress around town and today, I take a look at the players to watch in these match ups. While everyone will tell you these games mean nothing, you can’t tell that to these players and it shows by the way they stand out. This is a feature I’ve done for 20 years now and it is always fun, going through the list of outstanding playrs.
LEXINGTON COUNTY DISTRICT 1 SPORTSARAMA
FRIDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 12TH, WHITE KNOLL HS
6:00 AIRPORT AT PELION
Airport – WR Apollos Cook (6’2,215) is the Midlands top offensive player. One of the more under rated plaers in the Midlands is DB Jordan Mims (5’11,180)
Pelion – Look for good things from Pelion junior Luke New (5’10,170), who may line up at quarterback.
Senior Dalton Blackburn (6’2,180) will be on both sides of the football for the Panthers
7:00 BATESBURG-LEESVILLE AT LEXINGTON
Lexington – QB Taiden Mines (5’11,190) is the offensive star for the Wildcats but I say watch for RB Jonah Harris (5’10,200) and WR Kamadi Maxwell (5’11,175)
Batesburg-Leesville – OL/DL Patrick Swygert (6’4,240) is one of the most under rated players in the Midlands. You could see him at TE on offense and DE or LB on defense.
8:00 RIDGE VIEW AT RIVER BLUFF
Ridge View – While everyone knows to watch for the RV wide receivers, I say keep an eye on Quarterback Donald Tomlin (6’2,200), who transferred to the Blazers from Heathwood Hall.
River Bluff – Sophomore QB Parker Murray (6’1,200) will be fun to watch as a dual threat guy but the most dynamic player in this entire event is sophomore WR/DB Stephen Collier (6’3,200),who could be the best college prospect in the stadium that night. On defense, DL AJ Colter (6’4,275) will be the one to watch.
9:00 GILBERT AT WHITE KNOLL
Gilbert – The feature in this game is the backfield of the Indians. Senior RB Alias Graham-Woodberry (5’9,170) and junior Jaden Allen-Hendrix (6’2,235) will give you all the entertainment you will need.
White Knoll – I’m interested in seeing how White Knoll’s sophomore QB Landon Sharpe (5’10,175) performs in his first start of the new season. LB Deminico Banks (5’11,230) will fly around the field making plays.
