ELITE UNITS: OFFENSIVE BACKFIELDS

West Columbia (SC) The most glorified unit in the game of the football is the offensive backfield. With good support personnel, a backfield can make your
teams’ dreams come true – or bring your nightmares to a reality. Here’s a look at the Midlands area top offensive backfields in this Elite Unit Preview.
Lexington’s Ahmaad Bynem-Scott

1. LEXINGTON – The Wildcats have two of the leading rushers in the Midlands in running backs Ahmad Bynem-Scott and Taylor Mathias. Scott has 492 yards rushing and Mathias is at 376. I like the way these guys run the football. While neither of them are big in size, they run big; always moving forward, always fighting for yards and most importantly, always protecting the football.

2. AIRPORT – The Eagles have some dangerous players in this backfield. Bruce Staley is one of the most dyamic backs in the state and has rushed for 366 yards and wide receiver Nanders Lawrence has carried the ball 37 times for 342 yards and 7 scores. This team is dangerous and will be even more so if Lawrence gets his hand on the ball more. Quarterback Marko Gilmore has added 272 yards on the ground.
River Bluff’s Braden Walker

3. RIVER BLUFF – The Gators have two backs over 300 yards and Braden Walker, who leads with 339 is one of the top backs in the state. Riley Myers is right behind him with 330 but I have a feeling Walker will be getting toting the mail more now and we will see those numbers go up. QB Jackson Stone adds to the threat with the ability to run the football as well.

4. GILBERT – Another multiple threat backfield, the Indians have Ty Walker leading the way with 316 yards and Dre Cook with 261. Cook is a monster to bring down with his power and big frame. Add to the mix the running ability of QB Jy Tolen and you have another potent backfield.
5. CAMDEN – With the Midlands leading rusher, Willis Lane, who has 748 yards, he is a one man show at the RB spot. But QB Jafarri Peterson is a run threat for this team and has added 256 yards on the ground.
