The Midlands 4A Class football
teams are competing in three different regions.
The Region 3 4A is going to be interesting.
The sliding of South Pointe and the addition of Dean Boyd at York HS is going
to shake things up in the Rock Hill area of this region. I believe we will see a new region champion
this year and it could very well be from the Midlands area. Westwood has all
the tools in place and under head coach Matt Quinn, could be the favorite. But
the RedHawks will get tested by Ridge View, who may have the best team they’ve
had under Perry Parks. Richland Northeast will struggle again and probably go
winless in the region.

Region 4 is going to be a battle.
Lower Richland returns a lot of talent to their team including a dynamic
quarterback. They could challenge for this region crown. Dreher returns
experience at the quarterback position and that makes them a contender, as
well. AC Flora could be a challenger but will need to solve riddles at the quarterback
position. Orangeburg-Wilkinson will be in the mix for a playoff spot among the
Midlands teams.

Region 5 sees Brookland-Cayce and
Airport in the mix with the CSRA crowd. Airport has a lot of talent back
including two of the Midlands top athletes. I think they and the Bearcats will
battle for a top spot in this region. Brookland-Cayce has an impressive
returning roster, but they have a huge void to fill with the graduation of Reed
Charpia at quarterback. Look for Airport to compete for that region crown that
they got a share of in 2018.
